Use your Usage Dashboard.
Keep track of your electricity usage with your helpful "Usage Dashboard". View the dashboard in your My Account or view it on the Mobile App.
Turn lights off
Turn lights off when they aren't being used. Yes, we sound like your grandpa... "What are you trying to do? Light the whole neighborhood?"... but it's easy to leave a room and forget to turn off all the lights.
Power off & unplug unused devices
Turn off and Unplug all your unused electronics. You'll use less electricity and not even notice the difference.
Turn the thermostat up
Raising the thermostat by 5 to 10 degrees can help save on your cooling bills. When temperatures rise outside it can be hard for your ac to keep up. If you hear it running constantly turn it up a few degrees. It keeps the temp comfortable while keeping your unit from overworking.
Limit use of large appliances
As much as possible, avoid using large appliances such as the oven, washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher. Reducing and avoiding use of these larger appliances will make your home quieter and your electricity usage much lower.
Know your windows
During the day close your curtains and blinds on sunlit windows to keep heat out. Turn your blinds to point up so that the light won't beam in.
Take shorter showers & adjust hot water heater
Turn that 15 minute shower into a 5 minute quick rinse, and you'll still be squeaky clean. You can also adjust your hot water heater to a lower setting to reduce usage even further.
Run full loads of laundry & dishes.
When you simply must use the washing machine or dish washer, running only full loads of laundry and dishes will help to eliminate those smaller unnecessary loads, and also reduce usage of your hot water heater.
Keep a clean filter
Make sure your furnace filter is clean, so your unit isn’t working harder than it needs to be. This is overall great maintenance not only for summer but year-round.
Use your ceiling fans
Switch ceiling fans to rotate counter clockwise and set to low. This creates a down draft, forcing cool air to distribute into the room.
Wear clothes more than once
Why not live a little? Wearing lightly worn clothes more than once can help reduce the number of laundry loads you have to do. You'll know it's time to do a load of laundry when you find a sticky-note stuck to your back labeled, "Captain Stinkopotamus".
